Delaware CNA Training Requirements
To work as a CNA in a nursing home in the State of Delaware you must meet the certified nursing assistant (CNA) requirements. The requirements in the State of Delaware include taking required training in an approved program and passing the CNA test. Anyone who wants to be trained to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA) in Delaware must enroll in a CNA training program that is approved by the Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection. After you meet all the requirements your name is placed on the Delaware CNA Registry. You have to renew your CNA certification every 24 months. Skilled nursing facilities and intermediate care facilities can only hire certified nursing assistants whose name is in good standing on Delaware's CNA Registry. All certified nursing assistant (CNA) training programs in Delaware must be approved by the Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection before they begin providing training.
Delaware CNA Reciprocity
Delaware certification is required before anyone begins working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. A CNA trained and certified outside the State of Delaware cannot work in a nursing home in Delaware without a Delaware certificate whether working directly for a nursing home or through a temporary or contract agency. You are able to obtain certification in Delaware through the process of reciprocity if you have a current CNA certificate from the State in which you currently practice, have at least three months of full-time experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant performing nursing-related service for pay under the supervision of a licensed nurse or physician or have completed a training program equal to at least 150 hours and you must be in good standing in the state or states where you are currently certified. In addition, to be eligible for reciprocity Certified Nursing Assistants from the State of Maryland must also hold a current Geriatric Nursing Assistant certificate.
